Introducing Wearing History's "Pattern Preservation Project".
This new line of patterns focuses on digitally preserving as many antique originals as possible.  These patterns are *very challenging* to construct, but worth preserving and experimenting with!  𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.  𝗧𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆, 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

This pattern is for Circa 1916 Ladies' Evening Waists, #PL9368.  This pattern is for size 42" Bust Only.

The waist was not originally given, but it is likely 30" and this measure would have been *OVER* the skirt you plan to wear.  The fit may need to be adjusted for modern bodies.

~  Advanced/Expert Difficulty ~ These patterns are from antique originals and have only the original period instructions and fit.  Some experimentation will be required.  Please read the page supplied in images for more about this project.  You may click on it to enlarge.

The original period pattern description:  "LADIES’ AND MISSES’ EVENING WAISTS, to be made in either of three styles: in surplice style with deep ruffles forming sleeves; with a deep girdle in straight or pointed
outline and shoulder piece in single or double outline; or a low neck baby waist with puff sleeves and held in place by narrow shoulder straps."

This pattern number sequence places this in the year 1916.  I was unable to locate this particular pattern in Ladies Home Journal magazines.  This blouse style was a shorter-lived "historical revival" style, but can be adapted for evening wear through the late 19-teens era.  The crossover blouse can be taken into the early 1920s with careful styling.

The sewing instructions do not specify finishing or how to fasten or close this garment.  You may need a period sewing book handy for the tricky bits of construction, as instruction is from the time period and extremely minimal.  Links are given in the instruction packet to an index of online period sewing books.

My observations on creating the half-scale mock ups shown can be found here. They may be useful as a companion to creating this pattern!

- 𝐒𝐈𝐙𝐈𝐍𝐆 -

This pattern is for size 42" Bust.  Waist measurements were not given, but based on flat measures it is assumed to be around a 30 inch waist- which would be the measure OVER the skirt it would be worn with.  Make a mock up to test it out!  It likely will need to be adapted for modern figures.

--- A clean, computer drawn pattern of the basic pattern shapes needed to create the garment illustrated.
--- A PRINTED PATTERN that is mailed to you. This is printed on wide paper and packaged in a resealable plastic bag.
--- The original front and back cover images.  No inserts were given at this time with this pattern line.
--- Minimal illustrated diagrams. The back cover included a vague diagram of illustrations with points.  This one is tricky! DOES NOT include step-by-step instruction, finishing, fastener placement, or lining instructions.  See image in the listing for an example of the antique back cover information.
--- Typed text of the front and back information for reading clarity (those old covers could have tiny text, so we find this easier to read).
--- You must be familiar with how to put a garment together using pattern shapes and garment illustration.
--- One page about Pattern Preservation Project with links to my blog for period sewing books and other period fashion information which may help with sewing antique patterns.  There are no tutorials for this pattern specifically.
--- This pattern has had some very minor adjustments, and has the addition of labeling on the pieces, where they were originally just punched holes.  The majority of circles, dots, lines, external edges, and notches are exactly as they were in the original period pattern pieces.  Some adjustments of notches, placement, and pattern edges should be expected, as most are unchanged to preserve the historical accuracy of the original source material.
--- This pattern is in English only.

---NO in-depth step-by-step-instructions
---ONLY ONE SIZE- Size 42" Bust, approximately 30" waist.

---NO tutorials, videos, or sewing support for this particular pattern, as this project is meant to preserve as many antique patterns as possible in their original form.  Please see some of my other pattern offerings if you need more instruction or sewing support.  I have provided links to my blog for antique sewing books available online, and my YouTube and blog have other antique fashion and sewing information you may find useful.  As much as I would love to help with every pattern, the Pattern Preservation Project has extremely challenging antique sewing patterns which are replicated from period sources, so please expect some experimentation and research to complete the sewing projects.

  • HOW TO USE E-PATTERNS

Most patterns come as both A4/US LETTER and A0 size. You will need ADOBE READER, a free program, to print your e-pattern.

    For A4/US LETTER paper:

Open the "READ-ME-FIRST" File for instructions on printing and piecing your pattern. Print the PDF file on your home printer, cut off on the lines given, and tape them together. Then you cut and use your pattern just as you would a normal home sewing pattern.

    For A0 size:

This is sent away to a copyshop and printed on big sheets for you. We print A0 pattern sheets at great prices at Pattern Printing Company

  • Returns

No returns or exchanges are accepted. Please be sure of your pattern size and type of product, either physical or digital, before purchasing.
