E-Pattern- Circa 1911 Ladies' Blouse to Be Worn Over a Guimpe- Size 32-44" Bust

This listing is for an E-PATTERN that is downloaded and printed at home, or sent away to a copy shop like Pattern Printing Company.  Includes both print-at-home and A0 files.

This pattern is for Circa 1911 Ladies' Blouse to Be Worn Over a Guimpe, #PM3909.  This pattern has been multi-sized and includes size 32"-44" bust. 
NOTE THIS PATTERN RUNS SMALL- and you may wish to cut a size larger.  It is based on an original period pattern in size 36" bust.

The waist was not originally given, but it is made by pulling in the waist to fit a stay tape, which you cut and apply yourself (no stay tape piece was originally included).  The fit may need to be adjusted for modern bodies.

This blouse includes line to cut out so you can wear it over an underblouse (guimpe).  However, you can adapt those cut lines, like shown in the photo of me, where I used those lines to add contrast fabric.  With a little creativity, this is a very versatile pattern and can be adapted for looks from the 1910s through the early 20s by adjusting the "blousiness" of the cut.  Please note the embroidery motif is not included (and was not originally included).
**I found the most challenging part to be the underarm gussets, so I suggest you test this method with samples before attempting the final version to wear.**  This pattern also runs small so you may want to cut a size large.  The pattern is not changed from the period source (see more details below).

The blouse was featured in the April, 1911 issue of McCall's Magazine.   Instructions for joining to a dress are not included, but the period description says you can join it to a skirt to make a dress.

Construction is relatively simple for antique patterns, with the hardest part being the underarm gussets and finishing, but a lot of patience and experimentation are required for this pattern.

This pattern is for size 32-44" Bust.  Waist measurements were not given but the waist is somewhat adjustable based on the size stay tape you cut.  Pattern adjustments above size 38" bust may require pattern changes, as the backs can fit quite narrow in antique blouses.

--HOW TO PRINT AND USE THIS E-PATTERN--

YOU WILL NEED ADOBE READER, A FREE PDF READER PROGRAM, IN ORDER TO OPEN AND PRINT THIS PATTERN.
Includes both A0 and Print-At-Home files.
The A0 can be sent away to a copy shop like Pattern Printing Co within the USA (our small family business!).

The Print-At-Home pattern is formatted to fit on both USA Letter Size and A4 sized paper. You will need to print this pattern to 100% scale. Open the "READ-ME-FIRST" File for instructions on printing and piecing your pattern.  This pattern is tiled into letter sized paper. This pattern file is formatted to fit on both sizes of paper, and there will be varying thicknesses of white border, which will be cut off, according to pattern instructions.  You will print these documents on your home printer, cut, and tape them together, to form a larger pattern layout. Then you cut and use your pattern just as you would a normal home sewing pattern.
