Introducing Wearing History's "Pattern Preservation Project".ย
This new line of patterns focuses on digitally preserving as many antique originals as possible. ย These patterns are *very challenging* to construct, but worth preserving and experimenting with!

This pattern is for Circa 1908 Ladies' Over-Blouse, #EPM2250. ย This pattern is for size 36" Bust Only. ย
NOTE- this is only for the OVER-BODICE. ย The blouse underneath and the belt are not included. ย You wear this over a blouse like suspenders.
The waist was not originally given, but it is likely 24-26". ย The waist can be adjusted larger by adjusting the shirring (gathers) on a waist stay. ย The fit may need to be adjusted for modern bodies.

Advanced/Expert Difficulty ~ These patterns are from antique originals and have only the original period instructions and fit. ย Some experimentation will be required. ย Please read the page supplied in images for more about this project. ย You may click on it to enlarge.
The original period pattern description from an antique magazine: ย "The over-blouse... is a
most useful garment to wear over a guimpe, or will give a new lease of life to a half-worn lingerie waist. It need not of necessity be made of the same material as the skirt, as very pretty fancy over-blouses of this sort are seen in satin, taffeta silk, allover embroidery, lace or even cretonne."
This pattern number sequence places this in the year 1908. ย This garment is suitable for the about the 1905-1909 time range. ย Perfect for the Edwardian era. ย Making the over-blouse in the same fabric as a skirt will give your Edwardian wardrobe more variety. ย You can also make it in contrasting fabrics.
Please note that the "Waist Stay" piece was not originally included in this pattern. You can cut your own from ribbon, or make the waist more adjustable by using a ribbon through a waist casing.

The sewing instructions do not specify finishing. ย I have added a page of some suggestions and links which may be useful. ย You may need a period sewing book handy for the tricky bits of construction, as instruction is from the time period and extremely minimal. ย Links are given in the instruction packet to an index of online period sewing books.

This pattern is for size 36" Bust. ย Waist measurements were not given, but based on flat measures it is assumed to be around a 24-26 waist- which would be the measure OVER the blouse and undergarments. ย The waist can be adjusted larger by adjusting the shirring or altering the side seams. ย Make a mock up to test it out! ย It likely will need to be adapted for modern figures.

--- A clean, computer drawn pattern of the basic pattern shapes needed to create the garment illustrated.ย
---Files for both PRINT AT HOME (Us Letter and A4 in one file) and COPY SHOP (A0) are included.
--- The original front and back cover images. ย No inserts were given at this time with this pattern line. ย The instructions were very simplistic and on the back cover. DOES NOT include step-by-step instruction, finishing, fastener placement, or lining instructions. ย See image in the listing for an example of the antique back cover information.ย
--- Typed text of the front and back information for reading clarity (those old covers could have tiny text, so we find this easier to read).
--- You must be familiar with how to put a garment together using pattern shapes and garment illustration.
--- One page about Pattern Preservation Project with links to my blog for period sewing books and other period fashion information which may help with sewing antique patterns. ย There are no tutorials for this pattern specifically.
---A page of text suggestions for finishing, historical notes, and a few helpful links.
--- Includes 4 files, including an A0 (copy shop) file, a Print-At-Home file, a file with the instructions, and a "how to print" file.
--- This pattern has a new LAYERED file, which allows you to select if you'd like to make the pattern only with the period information (shaped markings and outside edges), or with my added notes, text, and simple corrections. ย The pattern itself retains the outside edge and internal markings exactly as presented in the time period- quirks and all.
--- This pattern is in English only.

---NO fastener instructions or placement.
---NO lining or finishing instructions (just basic what-goes-with-what)
---NO in-depth step-by-step-instructions
---ONLY ONE SIZE- Size 36" Bust, approximately 24-26" waist.
---NO tutorials, videos, or sewing support for this particular pattern, as this project is meant to preserve as many antique patterns as possible in their original form. ย Please see some of my other pattern offerings if you need more instruction or sewing support. ย I have provided links to my blog for antique sewing books available online, and my YouTube and blog have other antique fashion and sewing information you may find useful. ย As much as I would love to help with every pattern, the Pattern Preservation Project has extremely challenging antique sewing patterns which are replicated from period sources, so please expect some experimentation and research to complete the sewing projects.
